Expert Advice
Why is my car making a knocking sound?
If you notice a knocking sound when you start your vehicle or accelerate it’s possible that you have worn-out engine bearings. O’Leary’s Automotive is able to diagnose any engine trouble you may be experiencing. Your engine is a complex system that could cost your thousands if not maintained and repaired by an expert.
A Critical & Complex System
Your vehicle’s engine, timing belt and power transfer are a complicated group of gears, shafts and rods that are essential to your vehicle’s drivetrain. There are two shafts, the camshaft and the crankshaft that are perfectly designed to initiate the engine cycle. These two shafts also push movement to the transmission. The crankshaft controls the engine’s pistons, while the camshaft opens and closes the valves.
Signs You May Need an Engine Repair
The bearings for the camshaft and crankshafts are critical components in an efficiently operating engine. If you experience any of these issues, it’s possible that your engine has worn-out bearings in the camshaft, crankshaft, pistons or other engine components:
- Knocking sound in the engine at startup
- Knocking sound in the engine during acceleration
- Low oil pressure
- Major loss of power
- Smoke from the exhaust
