Your State Inspection Car Care Center
Emissions testing in North Carolina is required for most vehicles registered in the state. Drivers of these vehicles will need a two-part safety and emissions test before renewing a car registration. Multiple tests are performed to ensure that the vehicle meets standards for safe performance with the least amount of pollution emitted into the environment.
Keep Your Vehicle Safe and Compliant
- State inspections, including safety and emissions tests starting at $13.60
- 50 Point Inspections starting at $39.99
Part 1 – Safety Inspection
Your vehicle’s brake system relies on friction to work as intended. When you press down on the brake pedal, a pressurized system of hydraulic lines that leads to the vehicle’s wheels causes its brake pads to press against the brake discs or drums. This process creates the friction that’s needed to slow down your vehicle. In turn, the friction creates a substantial amount of heat, and that combination of heat and friction over time will begin to wear down various parts of your vehicle’s brake system.

Part 2 – Diagnostic Emissions Inspection
The diagnostic emissions inspection is intended to ensure that a vehicle is in compliance with regulations to control and limit emissions that can cause air pollution and damage to the ozone. Most counties in the greater Wilmington, N.C. area require emissions inspections.
Your Local Car Care Center
There is a small fee for an annual vehicle inspection. Assuming everything with a vehicle is in compliance, our affordable mechanics will input a vehicle’s inspection information into a N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles database. The vehicle’s owner will then be able to renew its registration and tags. If there are any issues that cause a vehicle not to pass inspection, the mechanics at any of O’Leary’s local car care centers will provide an estimate to get the vehicle in compliance and safely back on the road.
